About Me

Based in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, I grew up on a farm, tucked away on the Valley floor, where my appreciation for life's beauty in many ways began.

After consciously making the decision not to pursue an education in art, I found myself at the steps of a gallery all of about one week after completing my degree in business and tourism. Painting in acrylics since elementary school, a finished piece was rare for me, between my education, travel and many jobs. Nevertheless, I have always admired the world around me and wondered what colours and brush strokes I might use to recreate a moment. Come to find out- these are not the things that everyone thinks about!

(So that may have been my first clue that I would one day have the privilege of beginning my own journey in painting)...

About My Work

My goal is to convey a sense of place both physically and emotionally, that captures the essence of life in this beautiful Valley. I strive to paint the way that I see my home, be it through rose-coloured glasses, or simply being in the right place at the right time. I believe that every place has a soul that is not revealed at face value but in the moments and understanding that come through living there.

As an avid traveller, it has always been important to me to find out more about the soul of a place, rather than what large attractions you can gain a glimpse of while swimming in a sea of tourists.  On my way to Arizona, (back when we used to talk to the people sitting in the next plane seat) I asked a friendly stranger about what moment you can only experience through calling this place your home. I loved their answer. They paused contently, before expressing that "when you grow up in Arizona, you can smell the desert rain coming from miles away".

Whether it is the moment that snowflakes catch every branch in the Valley, the tides that meet our farmland, or the rolling fog over Blomidon- the Valley has a special soul of its own. It is more than I could convey with words, and exactly what I strive to convey with a brush.

Now working in oils, my inspiration is drawn from light and atmosphere, with a particular interest in clouds and fog. I am all about living in the moment and my obsession with fog is a part of that. It is fleeting- you chase it when you can and enjoy it while it lasts

Above all, my greatest reward comes from being able to share these moments with people who have experienced the Soul of the Valley.
